Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island near Seattle Washington as an alternative activity for bored children during summer vacation at the family cottage owned by Joel Pritchard (a US Congressman) along with his two friends Bill Bell and Barney McCallum . The first game of pickleball ever played consisted of four players using Ping-Pong paddles made out of plywood cut down from full-size Ping-Pong tables with an old Wiffel Ball as ball .
