What is Pickleball and How Do You Play It?
Pickleball is a fast-growing sport that has become increasingly popular over the past few years. The game combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis to create an action-packed racquet sport with a unique set of rules. As pickleball continues to gain popularity, more and more people are looking for information on how to play it. Here’s everything you need to know about this fun game!
History Of Pickleball
The origins of pickleball can be traced back to 1965 in Washington State when three fathers—Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum—invented the game for their families on Bainbridge Island. Initially named “paddle ball” after its use of paddles instead of racquets like other racquet sports, the name was later changed by Joel Pritchard’s wife who likened the pattern made by volleys as resembling a “pickled cucumber” or “pickle boat”. As such, they settled on calling it “pickleball” – hence its current name today!
How To Play Pickleball
Pickleball is played between two teams (singles or doubles) using paddles similar in size and shape to those used for ping pong but slightly larger than those used for badminton. A net hangs from two poles located at each end which keeps both sides separated from one another during gameplay. Points are scored when either team fails to return the ball within bounds; however teams may only score points if they are serving (the player must make contact with the ball first). The first team to reach 11 points wins!
Basic Rules Of Pickle Ball
When playing picklbeall there are several important rules that players must adhere too: serve diagonally across court; let your opponent hit dink shots before returning them; no volley zones near net where return should be done underhand; do not touch any part of net during gameplay; keep score out loud so everyone knows what’s going on; sit down while waiting your turn while your opponents serve or rally.; finally have fun and always remain courteous throughout playtime!
